27 Years of Captivating Concerts
A small seed, the Elkhorn Music Festival, planted with love and care 27 years ago by Julianne and Carl Eberl, has grown and blossomed into the magnificent Sun Valley Summer Symphony. Along the way it was nurtured by many visionaries who shared the Eberls’ dream and saw the possibilities of building upon that dream.
The selection in 1995 of Alasdair Neale to succeed Dr. Eberl as Music Director was one of those steps. Under Maestro Neale’s expert and inspired baton, the orchestra has grown to full symphonic proportions and is comprised of distinguished musicians from major orchestras throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
Generous contributions from donors like you have meant that the SVSS continues to present renowned guest artists on the SVSS stage, beginning in 2000 with Gil Shaham and most recently, Thomas Hampson, Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
The relationship with the Sun Valley Company, the Holding family and Wally Huffman blossomed into a remarkable partnership that culminated with the awe-inspiring state-of-the-art Pavilion, inaugurated in 2008.
A new look for a new era. In 2009, the Sun Valley Summer Symphony logo was boldly refreshed in commemoration of our 25th anniversary.
Today the SVSS is the largest privately funded free-admission symphony in the U.S. The realization of the dream of the Eberls’ and of all those who followed him, would never have been possible without the inspiration, devotion and generosity of all of you who nurtured the SVSS seed these past 27 years.
