Sun Valley Summer Symphony

What to Expect

All Sun Valley Summer Symphony concerts are offered admission-free.

The LED screen on the lawn will return for the 2011 season. The screen will show all orchestra festival concerts from August 1 – 16. The audience is encouraged to sit inside the Pavilion for the Edgar M. Bronfman In Focus Series.

Edgar M. Bronfman In Focus Series

The In Focus Series invites audiences to go inside the music and explore a specific theme which encompasses each of the four chamber music concerts.

In Focus programs on July 24, 25 and 27 have a two-part format:

5:30 PM In Focus Discussion
6:30 PM Concert

Please feel free to attend either or both parts of the performance.  There will be a 15 minute intermission between the discussion and the concert.

The final In Focus concert on Friday, July 29 begins at 5:30 PM and will not have a separate discussion component.

Orchestra concerts

Orchestra concerts begin at 6:30 PM, and last 60-75 minutes.

The Pavilion opens for orchestra festival concerts at 5:30 PM. Pavilion seating is available from the East Entrance (West Lake Road) for each of the nine evening orchestra concerts. Ushers will direct you to line up for seating inside the Pavilion. Reserved seats will be released for general seating at 6:15 PM.

The Sun Valley Pavilion will open earlier than 5:30 PM for those concerts that are expected to have high attendance.

There will be open seating from any entrance for the Edgar M. Bronfman In Focus Series, the Musicians’ Choice Chamber Music concert and the Family Concert.

Please observe the following concert etiquette so that everyone may enjoy the music:

  • Please set all mechanical and electronic devices (watches, telephones, pagers, PDAs, other communication and medical devices, etc.) which emit rings, beeps, alarms and other sounds to their non-audible settings.
  • Please, no photography, audio or video recordings during performances. You are welcome to take photos during curtain calls and before and after the music.
  • Pavilion seating for evening concerts is most appropriate for children over the age of 11. Everyone can enjoy the music if your children sit quietly with you.
  • Please explain to your children that loud voices, running and playing are disrespectful to other concertgoers and to the orchestra.
  • Large coolers and glass containers are safety hazards and are not permitted inside the Pavilion. Pavilion audience members are asked to please consume any food prior to the concert.
  • No dogs, other than assistance canines, are permitted inside the Pavilion.
  • Picnicking is welcome in the park surrounding the Pavilion.
